When Doubting God

Jeremiah 29:11-13–“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”

Acts 17:27-28–“And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.”

When Knowing God

Isaiah 40:18, 22-26–“With whom, then, will you compare God? To what image will you liken him? He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and the people of the earth are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy and spreads them out like a tent to live in. He brings princes to naught and reduces the rulers of this world to nothing. No sooner are they planted, no sooner are they sown, no sooner do they take root in the ground than He blows on them and they wither, and a whirlwind sweeps them away like chaff. “To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?” says the Holy One. Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of His great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.”

When Praying To God

Matthew 7:7-8–“Ask and it will be given to you seek and you will find knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives the one who seeks finds and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”

James 5:16–“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”

When You Want To Know Jesus Christ

John 1:1-5, 10-14–“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. He came into the very world He created, but the world didn’t recognize Him. He came to His own people, and even they rejected Him. But to all who believed Him and accepted Him, He gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn–not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God. So the Word became human and made His home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen His glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.”

Colossians 1:15-23–“Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through Him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see–such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through Him and for Him. He existed before anything else, and He holds all creation together. Christ is also the head of the Church, which is His body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So He is first in everything. For God in all His fullness was pleased to live in Christ, and through Him God reconciled everything to Himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross. This includes you who were once far away from God. You were His enemies, separated from Him by your evil thoughts and actions. Yet now He has reconciled you to Himself through the death of Christ in His physical body. As a result, He has brought you into His own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before Him without a single fault. But you must continue to believe this truth and stand firmly in it. Don’t drift away from the assurance you received when you heard the Good News . . . which has been preached all over the world.”

Colossians 2:8-15–“See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ. For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ, you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority. In Him, you were also circumcised with a circumcision not performed by human hands. Your whole self ruled by the flesh was put off when you were circumcised by Christ, having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised with Him through your faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us He has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.”

Hebrews 1:1-4–“God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.”

When Feeling Agitated

John 14:27–“Peace I leave with you my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

Philippians 4:6-7–“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

When Feeling Angry

Proverbs 14:17–“A quick-tempered person does foolish things, and the one who devises evil schemes is hated.”

Proverbs 14:29–“Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.”

Proverbs 15:18–“A hot-tempered person stirs up conflict, but the one who is patient or slow to anger calms a quarrel.”

Proverbs 16:32–“Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city.”

Proverbs 19:11–“The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger, and his glory is to overlook a transgression.”

Proverbs 27:4–“Anger is cruel and fury overwhelming, but who can stand before jealousy?”

Ephesians 4:26-27–“In your anger do not sin.” Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.”

James 1:19-20–“My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.”

When Feeling Lonely

Isaiah 54:10–“Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,” says the Lord, who has compassion on you.”

John 14:18–“I will not leave you as orphans I will come to you.”

When Feeling Depressed

Psalm 34:17-19–“The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them He delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all.”

Psalm 40:1-3–“I waited patiently for the Lord He turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in Him.”

When Feeling Tired

Isaiah 40:31–“But those who trust in the LORD for help will find their strength renewed. They will rise on wings like eagles they will run and not get weary they will walk and not grow weak.”

Matthew 11:28-30–“Come to me, all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke and put it on you, and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in spirit and you will find rest. For the yoke I will give you is easy, and the load I will put on you is light.”

When Feeling Fearful

Psalm 32:7–“You are my hiding place you will save me from trouble. I sing aloud of your salvation because you protect me.”

Psalm 112:6-8–“A good person will never fail he will always be remembered. He is not afraid of receiving bad news his faith is strong, and he trusts in the LORD. He is not worried or afraid he is certain to see his enemies defeated.”

Isaiah 41:10–“Do not be afraid—I am with you! I am your God—let nothing terrify you! I will make you strong and help you I will protect you and save you.”

When Feeling Frustrated

Isaiah 26:3-4–“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.”

Hebrews 10:36–“For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise”

When Feeling Insecure

Isaiah 41:13–“I am the LORD your God I strengthen you and tell you, ‘Do not be afraid I will help you.”

Hebrews 13:6–“Let us be bold, then, and say, ‘The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?'”

When Feeling Inferior

Genesis 1:27– “So God created human beings, making them to be like Himself. He created them male and female…”

Romans 12:3-5–“And because of God’s gracious gift to me, I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you should. Instead, be modest in your thinking, and judge yourself according to the amount of faith that God has given you. We have many parts in one body, and all these parts have different functions. In the same way, though we are many, we are one body in union with Christ, and we are all joined to each other as different parts of one body.”

When Feeling Worried

Luke 12:22-26–“Then Jesus said to His disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?”

1 Peter 5:7–“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.”

When Feeling Impatient

Psalm 37:7–“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him do not fret when people succeed in their ways when they carry out their wicked schemes.”

James 5:7-8–“Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.”

When Feeling Guilty

Isaiah 1:18–“The LORD says, “Now, let’s settle the matter. You are stained red with sin, but I will wash you as clean as snow. Although your stains are deep red, you will be as white as wool.”

Isaiah 44:22–“I have swept your sins away like a cloud. Come back to me I am the one who saves you, says the Lord.”

1 John 1:9–“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and there is no truth in us. But if we confess our sins to God, He will keep His promise and do what is right: He will forgive us our sins and purify us from all our wrongdoing. If we say that we have not sinned, we make a liar out of God, and His word is not in us.”

When Feeling Discouraged

Deuteronomy 31:6–“Be determined and confident. Do not be afraid of them. Your God, the LORD Himself, will be with you. He will not fail you or abandon you.”

John 14:1-3–“Do not be worried and upset,” Jesus told them. “Believe in God and believe also in me. There are many rooms in my Father’s house, and I am going to prepare a place for you. I would not tell you this if it were not so. And after I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to myself, so that you will be where I am. You know the way that leads to the place where I am going.”

When Feeling Jealous

Psalm 49:16-20–“Don’t be upset when someone becomes rich, when his wealth grows even greater he cannot take it with him when he dies his wealth will not go with him to the grave. Even if someone is satisfied with this life and is praised because he is successful, he will join all his ancestors in death, where the darkness lasts forever. Our greatness cannot keep us from death we will still die like the animals.”

Proverbs 3:31, 32–“Don’t be jealous of violent people or decide to act as they do, because the LORD hates people who do evil, but he takes righteous people into his confidence.”

Proverbs 6:34, 35–“A husband is never angrier than when he is jealous his revenge knows no limits. He will not accept any payment no amount of gifts will satisfy his anger.”

Proverbs 14:30–“Peace of mind makes the body healthy, but jealousy is like cancer.”

Proverbs 23:17–“Do not let your heart envy sinners, but always be zealous for the fear of the Lord.”

Proverbs 24:1, 2, 19, 20–“Do not envy the wicked, do not desire their company for their hearts plot violence, and their lips talk about making trouble. Do not fret because of evildoers or be envious of the wicked, for the evildoer has no future hope, and the lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out.”

Proverbs 27:4–“Anger is cruel and fury overwhelming, but who can stand before jealousy?”

James 3:14-16–“But if in your heart you are jealous, bitter, and selfish, don’t sin against the truth by boasting of your wisdom. Such wisdom does not come down from heaven it belongs to the world, it is unspiritual and demonic. Where there is jealousy and selfishness, there is also disorder and every kind of evil.”

When Grieving Or Bereaved

Psalm 34:18–“The LORD is near to those who are discouraged he saves those who have lost all hope.”

1 Thessalonians 4:13-14–“Our friends, we want you to know the truth about those who have died so that you will not be sad, as are those who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will take back with Jesus those who have died believing in Him.”

When Experiencing Illness

Psalm 41:3–“The LORD will help them when they are sick and will restore them to health.”

Mark 1:29-34–“After Jesus left the synagogue with His disciples, they went to Simon and Andrew’s home. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was sick in bed with a high fever. They told Jesus about her right away. So He went to her bedside, took her by the hand, and helped her sit up. Then the fever left her, and she prepared a meal for them. That evening after sunset, many sick and demon-possessed people were brought to Jesus. The whole town gathered at the door to watch. So Jesus healed many people who were sick with various diseases, and He cast out many demons. . . .”

Mark 6:53-56–“After they had crossed the lake, they landed at Gennesaret. They brought the boat to shore and climbed out. The people recognized Jesus at once, and they ran throughout the whole area, carrying sick people on mats to wherever they heard He was. Wherever He went–in villages, cities, or the countryside–they brought the sick out to the marketplaces. They begged Him to let the sick touch at least the fringe of His robe, and all who touched Him were healed.”

James 5:14-16–“Are any among you sick? They should send for the church elders, who will pray for them and rub olive oil on them in the name of the Lord. This prayer made in faith will heal the sick the Lord will restore them to health, and the sins they have committed will be forgiven. So then, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you will be healed. The prayer of a good person has a powerful effect.”

When Facing Temptation Or Trial

Romans 5:3-5–“We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us because He has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love.”

1 Corinthians 10:13–“The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, He will show you a way out so that you can endure.”

Hebrews 2:18–“Since He Himself has gone through suffering and testing, He is able to help us when we are being tested.”

James 1:2-4–“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

James 1:12-15–“Happy are those who remain faithful under trials because when they succeed in passing such a test, they will receive as their reward the life which God has promised to those who love Him. If we are tempted by such trials, we must not say, ‘This temptation comes from God.’ For God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself tempts no one. But we are tempted when we are drawn away and trapped by our own evil desires. Then our evil desires conceive and give birth to sin and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.”

1 Peter 1:5-7–“You are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In this, you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory, and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.”

When Facing A Difficult Decision

Proverbs 3:5-8–“Trust in the LORD with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know. Remember the LORD in everything you do, and he will show you the right way. Never let yourself think that you are wiser than you are simply obey the LORD and refuse to do wrong. If you do, it will be like good medicine, healing your wounds and easing your pains.”

Philippians 4:12-13–“I know what it is to be in need and what it is to have more than enough. I have learned this secret, so that anywhere, at any time, I am content, whether I am full or hungry, whether I have too much or too little. I have the strength to face all conditions by the power that Christ gives me.”

Colossians 3:12-17–“You are the people of God He loved you and chose you for His own. So then, you must clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Be tolerant with one another and forgive one another whenever any of you has a complaint against someone else. You must forgive one another just as the Lord has forgiven you. And to all these qualities add love, which binds all things together in perfect unity. The peace that Christ gives is to guide you in the decisions you make for it is to this peace that God has called you together in the one body. And be thankful. Christ’s message in all its richness must live in your hearts. Teach and instruct one another with all wisdom. Sing psalms, hymns, and sacred songs sing to God with thanksgiving in your hearts. Everything you do or say, then, should be done in the name of the Lord Jesus, as you give thanks through Him to God the Father.”

When Feeling Disappointed

Psalm 33:20-22–“We wait in hope for the Lord He is our help and our shield. In Him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in His holy name. May your unfailing love be with us, Lord, even as we put our hope in you.”

Psalm 62:8–“O my people, trust in the Lord at all times. Pour out your longings before Him, for He can help.”

Psalm 66:19-20–“But God has surely listened! He has heard my prayer!! He paid attention to it!!! Blessed be God, who didn’t turn away when I was praying and didn’t refuse me His kindness and love.”

Proverbs 15:22–“Without counsel, purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counselors they are established.”

Romans 5:5–“Hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured His love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us.”

Romans 8:28–“And we know that all that happens to us is working for our good if we love God and are fitting into His plans.”

When You Need Direction

Psalm 25:9-10–“He leads the humble in the right way and teaches them His will. With faithfulness and love, He leads all who keep His covenant and obey His commands.”

James 1:22-25–“Do not deceive yourselves by just listening to his word instead, put it into practice. If you listen to the word but do not put it into practice you are like people who look in a mirror and see themselves as they are. They take a good look at themselves and then go away and at once forget what they look like. But if you look closely into the perfect law that sets people free, and keep on paying attention to it and do not simply listen and then forget it, but put it into practice—you will be blessed by God in what you do.”
